Full Time • Houston Area
Location: Houston, TX — On-site
Schedule: Part-time, approximately 20–25 hours per week to start
Engagement: Independent Contractor (1099)
Compensation: Hourly rate, based on experience
Travel: Local customer sites with occasional travel within Texas

About the Role

Binyod is looking for a hands-on IT Operations Engineer – Field Service Contractor to support customers across Houston and, occasionally, other Texas markets.

This is a field-focused role for someone who enjoys troubleshooting technology, working directly with customers, and solving problems on site. You’ll respond to scheduled service tickets, diagnose and resolve first-level IT and infrastructure issues, document your work, and collaborate with our L2/L3 engineering team when more advanced support is required.

Our work spans structured cabling, networks and Wi-Fi, VoIP, access control, IP cameras, paging, audio-visual systems, and general IT infrastructure for schools, healthcare organizations, and commercial customers.

You don’t need to be an expert in every system we support on day one. We’re looking for strong IT and networking fundamentals, good troubleshooting judgment, disciplined documentation, and a willingness to learn.

What You’ll Do

You’ll provide on-site diagnostics and first-level support for customer IT and low-voltage infrastructure, including:

  • Troubleshoot network and Wi-Fi connectivity, switches, access points, cabling, VLANs, workstations, printers, VoIP phones, UPS systems, and rack power.
Perform first-level repairs such as device swaps, RMA replacements, patching, cable tracing, reboots, firmware updates, configuration restores, and basic reconfiguration.

  • With training, troubleshoot and support access-control systems, IP cameras/NVRs, paging, and audio-visual equipment.

  • Work with remote L2/L3 engineers on complex networking, firewall, VoIP, identity, and system-configuration issues.

  • Serve as the remote engineering team’s “eyes and hands” at customer locations.

  • Capture photos, device model and serial numbers, materials used, time worked, and other information required for every service visit.

  • Complete service documentation and obtain customer sign-off before closing tickets.

  • Escalate work when a repair falls outside the approved scope, requires additional equipment or labor, or needs advanced engineering support.

  • Support Binyod’s internal office IT when required, including workstation, laptop, phone, printer, network, Wi-Fi, inventory, and hardware RMA support.

  • When service volume allows, assist project teams with installation and organization of access points, switches, routers, UPS systems, VoIP phones, NVRs, racks, and related equipment.

What We’re Looking For

Required qualifications:

  • 3+ years of hands-on IT support or infrastructure experience, including work at customer locations.

  • Practical networking knowledge, including IP addressing, subnets, gateways, DHCP, VLANs, switches, and wireless access points.

  • Ability to trace and test network cabling.

  • Strong Windows troubleshooting skills.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and basic Active Directory/Entra user and access concepts.

  • Comfortable working independently at customer sites, in equipment rooms, and on ladders when required.

  • Professional and clear communication with customers and internal teams.

  • Strong documentation habits—you consistently record time, ticket updates, photos, serial numbers, and completed work.

  • Good troubleshooting judgment and the ability to recognize when an issue should be escalated rather than improvised.

  • Valid Texas driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and smartphone.

  • Ability to pass a background check and meet applicable Texas DPS registration requirements for access-control and camera work.

Preferred Experience

We’d especially like to hear from candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Access control, CCTV/IP cameras, intrusion systems, paging, or VoIP

  • Ubiquiti, Cisco, or similar networking platforms

  • Windows Server and virtualization

  • Microsoft Intune, SCCM, or endpoint management

  • IT/security remediation

  • MSP or field-service environments

  • Low-voltage installation or service

  • Ticketing and field-service management systems

  • CompTIA Network+, Security+, OSHA-10, networking, access-control, camera, or manufacturer certifications

What Success Looks Like

This role requires more than fixing the immediate technical problem. Great service means leaving behind a complete record of what happened.

Successful field engineers consistently document their time and work, capture required photos and equipment information, obtain customer sign-off, close tickets promptly, and escalate advanced issues through the proper support process.

The goal is simple: solve as much as possible on the first visit, document everything, and make the next step clear when escalation is required.

Growth Opportunity

This is the first field position in Binyod’s developing Service Department. The position begins at approximately 20–25 hours per week, with the opportunity to grow into a full-time role as service volume increases.

For the right person, there is also a path toward a Lead Service Technician role, with additional exposure and training in networking, VoIP, access control, camera systems, project implementation, and service operations.

Contractor Details

This position is structured as an independent contractor (1099) engagement. Work is primarily scheduled during normal business hours. After-hours or weekend assignments are arranged in advance.

Work-related mileage and fuel are compensated according to the contractor agreement. Binyod provides applicable service-ticket tools and equipment, along with training on company systems and processes.
